KATIE
NIETO

Growing up as a child actress commuting to the city from Northern New Jersey, my favorite pastime to do with my New York theatre friends was genderbent karaoke. I was compelled by singing roles meant for the opposite sex, not because I felt particularly masculine, but because men in theatre were allowed to be things that women were not: lovably controversial. As I got older, my heart warmed to Sondheim divas, Jean Smart in Hacks, and pretty much anyone who could (within any artistic medium) give me a stylish romp propped up by earnest and truthful characters.
